MOTOR CLUB
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of members of the Otago Motor Club was held in the club rooms last night, when the president (Mr J. L. Passmore) was in the chair. OUTSTANDING SUBSCRIPTIONS. Mr G. S. Kirby reported that although subscriptions did not come in very freely early in the year they had been coming in better lately owing to the extra efforts of the executive. Nevertheless, £1,500 was still outstanding, and he appealed to members to send in their subscriptions at once. WATER TROUGHS. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wrote drawing attention to the practice of some motorists drawing water from horse troughs with oily cans, thus polluting the water. The Chairman said that about a week before the letter was received the secretary had taken up the matter of placing tins at troughs, and this had now been done. He appealed to motorists to take all care of the tins to see that they wore not damaged. A PALMERSTON DIFFICULTY. The Secretary of the Palmerston branch of the Fanners’ Union wrote asking if the club would request members to dim their headlights when approaching Palmerston from the north and while standing at the Palmerston railway station. The station master at Palmerston stated that engines would dim their lights, and if motorists did likewise those engaged in shunting operations would appreciate it. The President asked motorists to assist in this matter if possible. GENERAL. Nineteen new members were elected. Following the meeting an extraordinary general meeting was held to consider new rules. After discussion, during which a number of amendments yore made, the new rules were adopted.
