INFECTIOUS JOY GERM A WEEK OF GAY ATTRACTIONS The perfect weather last night attracted many people to the city, and the “ Como to Dunedin Week ” functions were given an additional fillip. To-day ■ community singing and an organ recital were held in the TownHall. Mr John Leech’s Lyric Choir and tile 11.5. A. Choir are combining tonight in a special concert to be given in the Town Hall. Another musical attraction is the national and miscellaneous concert in the Concert Chamber. The public are reminded that, although these concerts are fully up to the high' standard usually achieved by those choirs and societies, the “ Come to Dunedin ” admission foe of sixpence will be maintained. , The amusement park is promising to be the strongest magnet of all, and will be in full swing. The various stalls in the Town Hall basement are also popular, and the afternoon tea and supper room gain entire approval. ; Miss Esther James, the young lady ■ who is walking through New Zealand and has already covered 1,400 miles, arrived at the Town Hall this after- j noon. It was run as an ordinary passenger car. To-morrow night in the Town Hall a specially attractive programme of Scottish items has been arranged by the Scottish societies. I R.S.A. AND LYRIC CHOIRS. ! The combined Returned Soldiers’ and John T. Leech’s Lyric Choirs will give a concert in the Town Hall this evening, when Bishop’s soul-stirring chorus, ‘ Now Tramp O’er Moss and Fell,’ with Miss Anne White as soloist, will be given in Dunedin for the tirst time. Other beautiful part songs have been allotted to both the R.S.A. Choir and to the Minnesingers, and these, in such capable hands, should give pleasure to patrons, especially as happiness and brightness is the keynote of the programme. Inc.dental solos in the part songs will be taken by Messrs George Ansell and Mr J. T. Ferguson. Vocal and elocutionary solos will be given by Miss Noni Davidson (soprano), Miss Maud Kemvard (contralto), Mr George Crawford (tenor), and Miss Sheila Neilaoii (elocutionist). The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mons. De Rose, will also give items which should meet with due appreciation. There will be a short community sing at the close of the programme. This “ Come to Dunedin Week ” effort by Mr John Leech and his choirs will be particularly worthy, and warrants the assumption that the capacious Town Hall will be adequately filled. MISCELLANEOUS AND NATIONAL CONCERT. Variety, iu addition to charm, should bo the predominating feature of the concert to be given in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall this evening, asAvith choral, orchestral, instrumental. vocal, elocutionary, and dancing items all tastes should bo amply catered ior. The choral items will be given by the Stclla-Musicxlc, widen will explore the avenues ot grand opera in the beautiful excerpts from » H Trovatore ' and * La Forza del Destino ’ The choral items of a national character are in the sale hands of the St. Philomeiia’s Choir. Mons. De Rose and ids symphonic orchestra promise to delight in orchestral selections, and Signora Martinelli-Reggi-ardo’s Instrumental Sextet will assist the Stella-Musicale combination. The first half of the programme will be varied and representative ol many countries, but the second half will be indicative of English, Irish, Scotch, and Welsh story and song. With such a galaxy ot first-class artists assisting a particularly noteworthy and enjoyable concert should result. Signor Giovanni Stella will conduct the Stella-Musicale; Mr D. Whelan the St. Philomeua Choir, and Mons. Do Hose the Symphonic Orchestra. POSTER BALL, One of the many events that will mark “Come to Dunedin Week” is the poster ball to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday night, beginning at 9 o’clock. This promises to be a novel and brilliant spectacle, at the response to the invitation to take part in the poster parade has been highly satisfactory. . The sale of tickets, too, points' to a very large number of dancers being on the floor. Tickets are obtainable from The Bristol, Ilegg’s, and Jacobs’s, and spectators are to bo allowed into the galleries at a charge of sixpence. Miss Esther James, who is walking through New Zealand, is prolonging liei stay in Dunedin in order to attend this ball and to take part in the parade. PHCENIX FACTORY. The Phoenix Co. Ltd. will open its factory in Maclaggan street to the public in aid ot the Kelsey-Vanilla Free Kindergarten to-morrow. Personally conducted parties will leave the entrance every quarter of an hour between 10 and 11 a.m. and 2 and - p.m. AT THE AERODROME. Those desirous of a day in the anon Friday, King’s Birthday, are recommended to take a trip out to the Otago airport. North Taieri, wheie a big field day is to be held. For weeks past the club’s pilots have been practising for the various competitions, and somc° close finishes may be expected. Special concessions are being made lor passengei flights, and for the ot 10s everyone may enjoy a flight “ m the air.” There is no charge for admission to the aerodrome, and cars will be parked free, while for the convenience of those who do not possess cars corporation buses will be run from Cargill’s Monument, Princes street, from 1.30 p m. onwards, at the small charge of 2s 6d return.
