FOR OTTAWA.

TO THE EDITOH. Sir, —Surely New Zealanders are more than complacent. Js there no end to the indignities thrust and to be thrust upon them ? What straw is it that will at last break the camel s back ? Surely conscience is dead in our Cabinet when it so heartlessly announces to a long-suffering public the inclusion of Mr Coates in the picnic party to Ottawa. Mr Coates is the Minister of Employment, and as so oh is paid to perform certain services. He has something approaching (50.000 unemployed to attend to —surely enough to keep him busy. What of that? “ Self before service ” would appear to ho his motto. It is imperative that his bags be labelled “ For.Ottawa.’’ Needs must that he attend the banquet tables, where the good things of the plates and glasses, will he served to the distinguished and the undistinguished alike. “ Economy ” is belched from every point of the compass until the word has sickened at its every printing. Thousands of pounds will he spent on our delegation to Canada, including the wives and cousins and sisters and aunts who, will accompany it. All the masses left behind will get in return will be the daily menu of “ economy ’’ for breakfast, dinner, and tea. Can one see our representatives having “ economy " on their menu in the de luxe cabins of their steamship? “ Economy " will be thrown overboard immediately the hawsers are east from the ship. There is always a day of reckoning ahead, and. even though the masses have been cheated out of their just revenge at the proper three-yearly period, their teeth will be all the sharper at the end of the fourth year to tear the Minister of Emnloymeiil politically asunder. Perhaps Mr Coates considers that what the delegation lacks in quality should he made up by quautitv.-—I am. etc., Mr:. Too. Mav 30.
