LOVELOCKS INCLUSION CONDITIONAL OTAGO ASKED TO FIND £SO The question of J. E. Lovelock’s inclusion in the New Zealand Olympic team has been considered by the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, which has advised the Otago Centre that it is prepared to find £7O of his expenses, and has asked the Otago Centre if it can find the other £SO by Saturday next. The President of the centre (Mr E. L. Macassey) stated yesterday that a reply was being sent to the council stating that it was an impossibility for Otago to find the money, as it simply was not in the financial position to do to. It was hardly practicable under present conditions for a public appeal to be launched, and even if it were the money could not be found in the time available. The council was being informed that the Otago Centre regarded this as a national matter, and that in its opinion the Olympic Council should find the remainder of the money required. Mr Macassey pointed out that Lovelock would probably_ be at Home for six years, and that his inclusion in the New Zealand team represented a splendid opportunity for New Zealand to win a track title. If he were not included in the New Zealand team it seemed probable that he would be invited to join the British team.
