Two barges on a canal were approaching each oilier. Although separated hy a hundred yards, the respective owners recognised each other and began long-distance greetings. The vessels passed, and were almost out of hearing range when ono bargee suddenly roared: “How’s that daughter o’ yours, Bill?’’ “ Oh,” replied Bill in his hilll-likc voice, “ she's gone and eloped, but we’re keeping it quiet.”-
