THE SHARE MARKET DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. Bank and insurance shares were fairly steady at late rates at this morning’s call. A late sale yesterday of Union Banks at £6 9s 6d was reported, the closing quotes to-day being £6 6s and £6 10s. Union Steam Ships (pref.) had sellers at 19s 9d, without buying quotes. Buyers of Australian Glass improved to £1 10s 6d (cum div.), but no sellers were evident. A sale of New Zealand Paper Mills was effected at 18s 6d (cum div.), and the market closed with buyers willing to pay 18s 4d, with sellers fivepence away. Brewery quotations were on a par with those of yesterday. In the milling section Waihi Grand Junctions were inclined to firm. Electrolytic Zincs (pref.) and Mount Lyells were steady. Okaritos firmed slightly on the announcement of a dividend of 6d a share. Paddy’s Points were inquired for at 3s 6d, without sellers. Golden Points showed a firm market, with buyers offering and sellers wanting 7d, whilst Blackwaters had buyers at 7s 5d and sellers at 7s 9d. Moturoa Oils were consistently inquired for at about 2s 3d, without enticing a seller. Tho Bonds and Debentures were very freely quoted at late rates. The Otago Provincial Fruitgrowers’ Council advises that the" High Commissioner’s cabled report lor the week ended May 7, on the London fruit market, is as follows: New Zealand Apples.—Somewhat better demands. Consignments ex s.s. Rangitiki and Port Hunter on the market, Cox’s orange are over-ripe and wasty, but other varieties are in good condition. Cox’s Orange, 12s to 14s; large quantities of wasty fruit down to 4s. Jonathan and Delicious, 10s to 12s 6d. Dunn’s Favourite, London Pippin, and Lord Wolseley, 10s to 11s 6d; Cleopatra, 11s to 12s. The Dunedin Stock Agents and Woolbrokers’ Association reports as follows:—Skins are now coming to hand more freely from trappers, and catalogues at yesterday’s sale contained a bigger proportion of good autumns and incomings which met with keen competition. Clean incomings free from spots sold to 26id, and a few small lots of early winters brought up to 3(Rd. Spotted sorts were relatively fewer, but it appears from the demand at to-day’s sale that skins caught from now on will meet a ready sale and should be well worth sending to auction. _ Inferior grades, such as summers, milky, etc., were in poor demand, and brought very low prices. BUTTER AND CHEESE. Messrs H. L. Tapley Ad Co. Ltd., South Island agents for the Anglo-Cou-tinental Produce Company, London, have received the following cabled market report;—Butter - , 96s to 97s per cwt; cheese, 58s to 59s per cwt; markets quiet. The South Island Dairy Association has received the following market reports from the New Zealand Produce Association, London:—Butter, 96s to 975; Danish, 104 s to 105 s. Cheese—white 58s, coloured 595. Both markets are quiet. OKARITO DIVIDEND. The Okarito Gold Dredging Company Ltd. advised the Stock Exchange at this morning’s call that at a meeting of directors last evening it was decided to pay a dividend of Cd per share on or about June 7. The actual date was not decided pending receipt of the proceeds of a gold shipment which is expected to arrive within the next two or three weeks.
