FAMOUS FICTION DETECTIVE
CHARLIE CHAN'S HEW ADVENTURES Based on Earl Derr Biggcrs’s novel, an intensely gripping mystery drama, ‘ Charlie Chun’s Chance.’ comes to the’ Strand Theatre on Friday. Warner Gland, supreme in Oriental characterisations, appears as Charlie Chan, the famed Chinese detective from Honolulu. The lovers are Marion Nixon and Alexander Kirkland, last scon as the youngest son in ‘ Surrender.’ Others in the cast are FI. B. Warner, Linda Watkins, James .Kirkwood, and Ralph Morgan. The story details the newest adventures of Charlie Chan, this time in a New York setting, where he finds himself studying the police methods of that city. A mysterious murder is committed, and Scotland Yard detectives combine efforts with,- die metropolitan police, but they are unable to solve the baffling crime. Charlie Chan, by virtue of his superior wisdom and his keen, analytical mind, discovers important clues, reconstructs the crime, and after a series of thrilling experiences and many narrow escapes, untangles the enigmatical skein. 'The murderer is finally revealed in a dramatic climax. in ‘ Sweet Kitty Bellairs,’ a Belasco Broadway hit, which will also he shown, three famous singing voices that have attracted stage audiences throughout the world, are introduced for the first time to the talking screen. Miss Claudia Dell, a Broadway and London stage favourite, sang leading parts in New York musical productions, and played the title role in ‘ Kerry Mary ’ abroad. Ernest Torrence, famous as a screen actor, is also an operatic and musical comedy baritone of note. He is the holder of the Royal Academy of Music medal for opera duging, and attained plaudits for his work in ‘ The Night Boat’ in Now York. Perry Askain is one of tho loading operetta stars of the stage. Flo was hero of 1 Tho Desert Song ’ and ‘ The New Moon.’ Walter Pidgoon, June Collycr, Lionel Belmore, and others have important roles in this film.
