PLEADS GUILTY TO THEFT
GAS COMPANY'S ACCOUNTANT [Per United Press Association.] GISBORNE, May 4. John Hunter (38) pleaded guilty in the Police Court to twelve charges of theft as a servant of the Gisborne Gas Company. The amount involved was £374. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The evidence disclosed that the accused had adopted a system of short banking. He was temporarily appointed accountant to the company in September last, and the appointment was made permanent on November 27. The first theft was committed on November 23. The defalcations continued to April 15.
