TAIERI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of the Taieri Agricultural Society was presided over by Mr R. T. Kirk. There was a good attendance.

Before proceeding with the ordinary business the chairman made sympathetic reference to the death of Mr W. G. Mackay (Berwick) and Mr J. A. Ainge (Dunedin). It was decided to forward letters of sympathy to the widows and relatives. The West Taieri branch of the women’s division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union applied for the use of the hall for its meetings.—The application was grantedalso a similar one from the men’s division.

The matter of pumice fuel boilers for the hall kitchen was left over for the incoming committee. The balance-sheet for the year just closing was submitted by the secretary tMr John Williamson). This was ordered to be printed, and- the president and secretary were appointed to draw up the annual report. Thanks were expressed to the Social Committee, to Mr G. Lawrence for his work in connection with the social, to Messrs John Young, W. L. Craig, and Thomsons Ltd., for the gifts of pictures, and to Mr S. Taylor (‘ Otago Witness ‘ photographer) for a group of the life members. Nominations for incoming officebearers were received as follow:—President, Mr A. S. Gillespie; vice-president, Mr J. A. Fowler; Committee of Management—Messrs W. Nichol, A. Mann, J. B. Blair, S. Young, A. Walker, P. Dow, M. Reid, D. Wallace. J. Campbell, J. A. Walker, R. Kirk (retiring members), and Lindsay Robertson, It. Doogue, G. Stevenson, and A. K. Reid.
