WORST FAT CATTLE MARKET FOR YEARS Included in the big yarding of fat cattle at Burnside to-day were several trucks of extra heavy bullocks, a large number of prime light-weights, and several pens of unfinished sorts. There was also a larger consignment of cows than usual, but not many heifers. The top price was £lO 12s Cd, secured by Mr Douglas, of Waikouaiti. Mr M'Kenzie, of Fortrose, got up to £lO 7s Gd. Tne balance of the bullocks sold from £5 15s to £9 10s, cows up to £4 10s, and a small lot of heifers up to £5 2s Cd. Taking the sale all oyer, it may be quoted as the worst since the war. Flat cattle sold from £2 to £4, and two or three pens of shorthorn bullocks at £5. Cows were sold at lata rates from £1 10s to £3. In the yarding of 2,000 fat sheep were three or four pens of extra uica wethers, but not many choice ewes. The bulk of the ewes were light and aged. Tho sale opened at an advance of 2s on wethers, several pens bringing 19s. Ewes showed an advance of Is Gd,: Good young ewes sold up to 12s 9d,and light and old 8s to 9s. Several trucks of prime, with an unusual number of light and unfinished were shown in tho fat lamb section. With a drop at the freezing works it was expected that the sale would ba easier than last week’s. Butchers were buying all the fat sheen at the opening, the rates being a shade above export prices- at this stage. Some good quality baconers were included in the pig' sales, selling up to £3 3s, with porkers up to £2 ss. Thin worked out at about the rates of tho last sale—Gd for porkers and 5d for baconers.
