The gold held by the Bank of France continues to increase. Not very long ago it amounted to £400,000,000. The latest return shows that it now amounts to £580,500,000. Thus is the world’s gold put out of action. That it has failed to serve France is sufficiently shown by the fact that she now has a big army of unemployed. The precise figure is not known, for it is not collected, but it is certain to run into seven figures. \
