ASKED TO RESIGN
LABOUR REHEARSES GOVERNMENT SINS DOMINION PETITION PREPARING [Per United Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, May 2. Mr Semple,' M.P., addressed a crowded meeting at, the Muncipal Theatre on Saturday evening, the mayor (Mr Miller) presiding.. He declared that the extension of the life of Parliament was a distinct violation of the Constitution, and announced that petition forms were to be circulated calling on. the Government to resign. It was unanimously resolved—“ That we citizens of Invercargill pledge ourselves to do all in mm power to support the petition calling upon the Government to repeal the legislation relating to cuts in pensions, wages and salaries, hospital and education payments, and to resign.” BLENHEIM, May 2. In a speech here Mr M'Keen, M.P., stated that petitions calling on the Government to resign on account of its alleged mismanagement of the unemployment situation • and on ’ other grounds would be circulated all over New Zealand this week.
