£12,000 DAMAGE
FIRE IN BOOKSELLER'S SHOP [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 30. % A serious fire broke out early thi* morning in the premises of L. M. Isitb Ltd., booksellers, in Cashel street, causing damage estimated at £12,000. The fire started in the rear portion, and rapidly spread throughout' the shop. The flames got a bold in the cellar, and this quarter was the cause of some troublle, owing to inaccessibility. The finnen worked all morning on intermittent outbreaks. Minor damage was done to the Londofn Dental Saloon on the tapper story, occupied by G. Z. C. Harris. The insurances on Isitt’s stock amount to £10,500 and on the building to £4,500. The brigade laced the difficult task of coping with masses of smouldering books and papers. Further damage was caused by tbe contents of the first floor falling to the ground floor through the burnt woodwork. Th eorigin of the fire is unknown. The blaze was nob properly under control till noon.
