MANAWATU RACES. TRAINING NOTES. PALMERSTON NORTH, April 18. It being au oil morning, uoo a great deal of last work was attempted at Awapuui this morning. The weather was beautiful, and the tracks in splendid order. New arrivals include Speedmint, High Comedy, Ganpat, Tea Trader, Shrewd, Gay Sou, Sir Pombal, Cape Town, foghorn, Rational 11., Straightcourse, 'Winsome Hind, Fleeting Glance, Porlock, Gay Crest, Tout lo Aloud, and Gaswyu. Equitant jumped away from the five furlongs post and ran tne last three in 43 4-fisec. -On the course proper, with tho flags wide out, Chief Cook finished better than Chief Clerk at the end of six furlongs in Imiu 20 l-ssec, tho first three in 40 2-ssec. Inflation and La Moderne, two Sires’ Produce Stakes candidates, jumped away from the straight seven furlongs peg and ran the full distance in Imin 33sec. Tea Trader dashed away from Lady Quex in tho early stages in a six furlongs gallop, running the first three in 39sec and tne half-mile in 53sec. Although Lady Quex closed up* at the straight entrance, Tea Trader drew away again to complete the task in Imiu 18 4-sscc. it was a good effort, and the Produce Stakes promises to be a brilliant contest. Headland alone ran six furlongs in Imin 22ses. Ythau and Chief Marionette strode round to the three furlongs post and came home in 38 4-ssec. Henry of Navarro and Gaswyn negotiated a round of the battens, both giving a promising display. Easterly and Callamart were together to the final fence, but Easterly drew away to run home. Omeo was an early worker, and after doing a round on the plough jumped three flights very satisfactorily. Orapai has been scratched for all engagements. Gay Song, by wimiiug at Masterton, is not eligible in the Autumn Plate. Clangor, who also won at Masterton, loses bib maiden allowance in the Sires’ Produce Stakes.
