NAMELESS MOURNER
GIRL AND MYSTERY MAN. One of the mourners for John Martin Cregan, a mysterious red-haired Irishman who died almost penniless in Cnirapsall Institution, Manchester, and was buried in Moston Cemetery, Manchester, was a girl from Oldham. Mr Cregan’s funeral was arranged by Mr Albert Lloyd, licensee of a Manchester hotel, who, with a number of Mr Cregan’s other friends, subscribed to meet the expenses. “ I did not know the girl before she came to see me, and I do not know her name now,” Mr Lloyd said. “ She said she had got to know Cregan very well, but they were just friends. She seemed very upset, and told me that sho was going to send a wreath.” Mr Cregan, who was thirty-six, bad said that ho was associated with a wealthy family in Ireland, and bad become the “ black sheep ” because of his drinking and gambling. When ho arrived in Manchester two and a-half years ago ho bad money and an expensive wardrobe. When bo died he left 4s 6d.
