CROQUET

It is intended to devote some spae* la each Saturday's issue to items of interest to croquet players. The secretaries of the various clubs are asked to send in notes to “ Diana ” not later than Wednesday in each week. _ Correspondence is invited and, inquiries as to flue points of the game or other matters connected with croquet will he answered as far as possible.

Closing Days, The season is fast drawing to a close. Most clubs are closing this month to allow their lawns to be top-dressed.

Logan Park Club. This club closed its lawns on Saturday last with a gala day, when there was a large attendance of members and visitors. The president (Mrs C. Stanley Smith) presented the trophies won during the season. _ Mrs Briggs (president Otago Association) congratulated the club on the progress made, especially on the fact that it had been able to loan five lawns for the Otago tournament. She congratulated the winners and wished the club every success.

Leith Club.

The Leith Club was favoured with a fine day, for its closing function on Wednesday afternoon, when there was a good attendance, including visitors from other clubs. The president (Mrs H. D. Munro) presented the trophies won during the season. Tho club’s championship was finished on Saturday, the winner being Miss 0. Y. Mitchell; runner-up, Mrs R. Watson. | Mrs Briggs was present and congratulated the club on its good play, which was specially shown at the Otago tournament, when Leith players carried off the B grade doubles for the third year in succession.

Closing Dates. The Taieri Club held its closing function this afternoon, Opoho will close next Saturday, Punga on April 28, and St. Clair on April 30.

Otago Croquet Association. The monthly meeting of the Otago Croquet Association was held on Thursday, April 14, in the Y.W.C.A. Rooms. Mrs Briggs presided an attendance of twenty delegates. A request from the secretary of the N.Z.C.C. for reports, etc., for the 'N.Z. Croquet Annual’ was received. Club secretaries are asked to forward same before end of June. The association is applying to the City Council for an area at Logan Park sufficient for three fullsized lawns adjacent to the Logan Park lawns, and the matter is to be fully discussed at the annual meeting on May 26. The next ordinary meeting will be held on May 12. The junior shield competition resulted in a win for Leith 11., as they had not had a loss, but won from Opoho by default. Punga senior team have won the senior shield, having had no losses.
