A DRY SEASON
SERIOUS FOR WAIRARAPA FARMERS [Per United Press Association.! WELLINGTON, April 15. A request that the Government should arrange with the Rural Intermediate Credit Board to advance £20,000 to Wairarapa dairy farmers in order to purchase fodder during the winter was made to the Minister of Agriculture (Mr C. E. Macmillan) today by a deputation representing the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. It was stated that the loan could be arranged on a business footing without cost to the State, and that it would be repayable out of the cream cheques next season. The deputation was introduced by Air W. J. Poison, ALP., president of the Farmers’ Union, who said the dry season in the Wairarapa had proved very serious, and the farmers of the district were up against it. They had a proposition to put before the Government which would not cost the State anything. It was essential that something should be done to help the dairy herds through the winter. The Alinister promised to- approach the necessary authorities with a view to assisting the farmers concerned as soon as possible.
