SOME DEFINITIONS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I am sure that you will agree with mo that if we are to think clearly we must define our terms. Lot us make the following definitions;— (1) Uncmnloycd.—Such persons, excluding invalids, as have never contributed by their own efforts to the_ welfare of the community. Alternatively, persons who are temporarily out of employment. (It.) Loyal Citizens. —Such persons ns put the common woalfare before personal welfare. Such persons as realiy arc citizens, and arue not simply
individuals living in the city. We have faith enough to believe that such citizens live at Maori Hill and Mornington as well as elsewhere. Note: It is no test of loyal citizenship to find people investing money at 6 per cent, interest in any municipal venture, more than it was a test of patriotism to find people buying war bonds. 111. The Thinkers: The “unemployed” and a few others. Note: It is a great pity that while the “ unemployed ” are using their God-given talents to the utmost these days, the rest of the community are not thinking more seriously with them. IV, The Damned: Such persons as take advantage of the present situation either to obtain cheap labour or to take part in any disturbance when they are not forced by economic pressure to do so.—l am, etc., Thinker. April 15.
