The qualifying round of the Roehampton Cup, the first professional contest of 1932, which was played in half a gale of wind, saw C. Whitcombe, E. Whitcombe, Mitchell, Corapston, Robson, Duncan, and Davies, all Ryder Cup players, eliminated. Perry, the voung Leatherhead professional, had brilliant rounds of 76 and 72. A critic, referring to the elimination of the Ryder Cup players, says that all their failures were due to wasted approach putts.
