MEETING OF COMMITTEE GARDEN COMPETITION AWARDS. - The monthly meeting of the commit* tee of the Dunedin Horticultural Society was attended by Messrs G. A. Skene (chairman), P. Vallange, J. Nelson, H. S. Hungerford, J. B. Downes, J. Mil* ler, W. Blackburn, 11. T. Trevena, H. Bennett, A. G. Rigby, S. D, Macdon* aid, M; Scott, G. Attwood, W. Thorn, J. S. M'Cartney, J. H. Vickers, F. S, Perrett, and J. T. Gray, Mesdames J* Rodger-, W. Jones, and A. G. Rigby,' Misses A. M'lntyro and A. _ Cable. Mr J. Fleming tendered his resigua. tion as a member of committee on account of bad health, and it was accepted with great regret. The Secretary, Royal Horticultural Society, wrote giving the names of potatoes which should be recognised as distinct varieties for show purposes.' The hon. secretary, Auckland District Council, re the proposed National Rose , Society, wrote stating that it was ; ,nok 'i the intention that the society should i hold separate national rose shows, but that they endeavour to provide for rose classes at shows held by horticultural societies in a similar way to the National Daffodil Society, The statement of the last show presented by the treasurer disclosed very satisfactory receipts and a most successful show, there having been 671 entries. A vote of thanks was passed to thq lady members for their successful running of the ten room, and to Miss A.: M‘lntyre for supplying cake for weightguessing competition (the cake was won by Mr H. Bennett). The Chairman congratulated Mrs Rigby upon her success at the croquet tournament, and Mr J. Nelson upon the esteem in which he was held in the teaching profession, as evidenced at the time of lus retirement. It was decided to send the committee’s congratulations to Mr F. W. Exler (who resigned from the committee on the eve of his returning to England) upon the celebration of his golden wedding. Tha results of the judging of the various garden _ competitions were to hand. The judging was' made under the following headings Good arrangement and general effect, 25 points; order and neatness, 15; noteworthy hardy flowers, 10; street fences and hedges, 10; special ■ features, such as rockeries, pergolas, etc., 20. Results;— A competition (small gardens), summer judging: Mrs W. Mackenzie (19, Granville terrace, Mornington), 23, 14, 8,9, 16 —70, first; Mrs J. B. .Downes (24 Clarendon street), 21, 15, 8,8, 17— 69, second. _ B competition (autumn judging): Mrs J. B. Downes (22. 14, 7,8, 16—67), first, Mrs W. Mackenzie (21, 13, 7,8, 15—64), second. Highest aggregate for both competitions: Mrs J. U. Downes-(136) first,' Mrs W. Mackenzie (134) second. C competition (large gardens, aggregate for two judgings: Mr A. D.
