LOST OFF CAPE FAREWELL
COURT'S FINDINGS IN KOTITI INQUIRY NO FAULT OF OWNERS, MASTER, OR GREW [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 25. The opinion that the Kotiti when she left Westport on her last trip was seaworthy and well found, and that her loss was not caused or contributed to by any act or default on the part of the master, crew, or owners is expressed by the marine court which has been inquiring into her loss. .. The court makes certain recommendations in respect to the proper stowing of deck cargo and the prevention of coal and other mobile cargoes from shifting in heavy seas. From the position of the various articles that came ashore and consideration of the wind and tides prevailing throughout the relevant period, it is considered that the vessel was lost at a point approximately due west of Cape Farewell. The court considers that a probable cause of the loss of the vessel might have been the shifting of the coal cargo in the heav" seas.
