CLASH WITH POLICE
UNEMPLOYED DEMONSTRATORS NUMBERS INJURED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, February 24. (Received February 25, at 10.15 a.m.) Six thousand unemployed at Bristol, incited by Communist speakers, clashed with the police. There were over thirty ‘casualties. Several of tho police were injured. The crowd marched towards the Council Chambers with red flags, and the police attempted to divert the procession, but were overwhelmed* and forced to use their batons. Fierce fighting developed. Reinforcements of mounted police arrived and scattered the crowd. The rioters rallied, and in two hours’ fighting thirty were 11 injured. Photographs show the police charging with upraised batons, several of the demonstrators being felled. In London these pictures caused 3,000 men to make an attempt to reach Parliament House, but the House was strongly guarded, and mounted police dispersed the mob. £jpme who attempted to destroy the flags on the Cenotaph were prevented by a police charge.
