RIFLE SHOOTING
WEST TAIERI DEFENCE CLUB On Saturday the above club held its annual Ladies’ Day on the range, and there was a good attendance of members and their friends. Tho weather was flue, and tho light good, hut a tricky head wind upset several promising scores. Ten 'shots each were fired at 500yds, tho highest six scorers firing an additional ten shots each and tho highest four of those six fired a final, ten shots to decide the winner. Top score for the three shoots was made by Rifleman R. Campbell, who compiled 142 out of a possible 150, the next in order being President A. T. Graham (141), Rifleman W. Foster (140), and Rifleman A. Thomson (134). The winner of the trophy for the lady who drew the leading scorer was Miss Marshall. A competition was also held for tho senior visitors’ trophy, which was presented by Mr A. Buddicom, and the winner proved to ho Mr Withers. In presenting tho trophies tho president congratulated the winners, and thanked those who helped to make tho afternoon a success, especially the ladies who provided tho refreshments. During the afternoon some of tho ladies tried their “ hand ” with the .303 rifle, and somo good scores were registered. Tho following aro the scores for the day:— FIRST SHOOT.
