Sir Charles Statham arrived from the north last evennig, and is staying at Wain’s Hotel. Mr J Aico Kennedy went to Queenstown to-day. At last night’s meeting of the Hospital Board a communication was re-* ceived from the Director-General of Health that the Minister had approved of the following appointments .—Senior house surgeons for the year, Drs Anderson and M’Hroy; junior house surgeons Drs Allan* Kirk, and Martin; acting house surgeons—Messrs N. H. A. M'Kinnon, H. A. Small, and 6. L. M’Leod January 1 to June 30, 1932), Messrs J. R. Elder, R, Blunden, and M. : M'Georgo (July 1 to December 31* 1932), W. F. Watters to relieve in emergency. Mr J. Hadfield, at one time manager* of th- Moa Flat Seed Farm, now agrostologist in the Government service, has been on a visit to Otago in regard to the certification of seeds, and left this morning for Palmerston North. The resignation of Mr John ' J.Woods as secretary of the Tuapeka Hospital Committee, a postion he had occupieo for forty-five years, was received at last night’s meeting of tha Hospital Board, and it was decided that it be accepted with regret. A motion was carried that a letter of appreciation be forwarded to Mr Woods for his long and capable services. The death of Mr 0. H. Hayward was referred to with regret at last night’s meeting of the Harbour Board, the chairman (Mr J. Loudon) stating that all members who had sat with Mr Hayward liked him very much, and would agree that he had never neglected the work of the board. As a mark of respect to the memory of Mr Hayward those present stood’ in silence for a few moments, and the following minute of condolence was carried:—“The board places on record its high appreciation of the practical and unstinted service rendered by the late Charles Henry, Hayward during the years 1927-29 of his membership of the Otago Harbour, Board, also of his service to the public generally, and desires to express its sincere sympathy to his widow and fam. y in their bereavement.” Mention was made at last night’s meeting of the Hospital Board of tha loss sustained by the Southland Hospital Board by the death of its chair-: man (Mr John Matheson), and the action of the chairman in sending a letter of sympathy to the Southland Board was confirmed. At last night’s meeting of the Hospital Board the chairman (Mr W. E. S.' Knight) made reference to the death of Nurse Jamieson,, and a motion was carried that the sincerest sympathy of members be extended to Dr and Mrs Jamieson upon the death of their daughter. Members stood in silence for a moment. > Last night’S meeting of the Hospital Board confirmed the appointment of Dr Aubrey James Mason as resident surgical officer (senior) at the Dunedin Hospital, and also the appointment of Dr Frederic Russell Chisholm as resident medical officer (senior). The latest arrivals at the Grand Hotel include Mr A. 0. Cowan (London)* Miss I. R. Guffie (Napier), Sir Francis Boys, Messrs D. L. Robieson and W. Day (Christchurch), and Mrs James Lory (Balclutha). Recent registrations at the Excelsior. Hotel are Messrs W. G. Garrard, R* Y. White, J. Noonen, and G. P. Marsh (Christchurch), Miss Alice I. Litten’ (Oamaru), and Mr and Mrs A, Brown (La .der). Among those persons visiting thaf L.uy Hotel are Mrs T. 0. and Miss P. Paterson (Auckland), Messrs P. Exton' and L. M'Grath (Wellington), Messrs F. J. Kent, J. Woodward, and L. : Friend (Christchurch), Mr W. Bryant (Ashburton), Mr and Mrs L. F. Forsyth, Mrs J. and Miss M. Wilson' (Timaru), Mr and Mrs A. M. Fraser (Hakataramea), Mr and Mrs M.
