PICNIC
The annual picnic of the Dunedin staff of the T. and G. Mutual Life Society was held at Wharo Flat on Wednesday, a record number being conveyed there by Corporation buses and private cars. The weather was ideal for picknicking, and an enjoyable day was spent. A committee had arranged a sports programme, which resulted as follows; —Girls (12 to 15): Y. Longworth 1, N. Jacobson 2. Boys (12 to 15): A. Reid 1, D. Reid 2. Ladies’ Staff Handicap: Miss M. Dryden 1, Miss 0. Johnson 2. Thread the Needle: Miss Nieper and G. Stark 1, Miss 0. Johnston and A. C. Lowry 2. T. and G. Handicap; G. Stark 1, W. Dunbar 2. Married Ladies: Mrs Hughes 1, Mrs Bunn 2. Cigarette Race: Miss Nieper and H. C. Smith 1, Mrs Stark and R, Martindale 2. Chain-stepping; Mrs Martindale 1, Mrs Hughes 2. Committee Race: Barnett 1, Marslin 2. Proposal Race: Miss 0. Johnston and R. Martindale 1. Miss F. Brown and W. Laws 2. In addition, several races were run for children. Games were indulged in, and many took advantage of observing the beauties of the district. Before leaving for home Mr J. W. Becker, field manager for Dunedin, presented prizes to the successful competitors, and expressed thanks to the members of the committee for their efforts in arranging the outing.
