RECHABITES
The fortnightly meeting of the Hope of Dunedin Tent, No. 20, was held in the tent room, Marshall’s Chambers, Moray place, on Monday, when Bro. M. Walkinshaw, past chief ruler, presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. The provincial chief ruler. Sister Verngreen, addressed the members and encouraged the continuance of such well-attended meetings as was shown on the occasion of recent visits. The greetings of the Star of the South Tent and also an invitation to its next meeting were extended and accepted. The Rechabite calendars for 1932 were received by the secretary, Bro. A. V. Gain, and were issued to the members present. This year’s calendar is a fine piece of work. The item for the evening’s programme was progressive euchre, Bro. J. Grant securing first prize. Prior to the games a reading was given by P.C.R. Bro. E. J. lies, ‘ The Mystery of a Pack of Cards,’ which showed how a soldier brought before a military court for using a pack of cards during a church service satisfies the magistrate of his good intentions —that the cards served as a Bible, calendar, and a Common Prayer Book., Keen interest was shown during the reading, copies of which were sought after.
The Star of the South Tent, 1.0. R., resumed its meetings for 1932 in the Oddfellows’ Hall, .Kensington. The presiding officer, Bro. P. Harman, called upon the provincial chief ruler to instal ; the officers for the ensuing half-year, the provincial secretary acting as Levito. The following was the result of the election: —Chief ruler, Bro. Stanley; R.H. supporter, Sister S. Fraser; deputy-ruler, Sister M. Rea; secretary, Bro. T. Fraser; treasurer, Bro. A. E. Harman; Levite, Sister M. Campbell; assistant Levite, Bro. Shilcock; guardian, Bro. W. Baillie; sick steward, Sister S. Fraser; tent reporter, Sister A. R. Verngreen, The retiring chief ruler,’Bro. F. Harman, automatically stepped into the office of past chief ruler, and the retiring auditor, Bro. R. Graves, was re-elected. As a visiting member, Bro. A. T. M'lndoe, P.S., addressed the meeting _ and delivered some words of wisdom in reference to tlie good of tho order. The distribution of the Rechabite 1932 calendars and booklets containing the year’s syllabus, together with the arranging of a card evening, occupied the remainder if the evening. '
