SUMMER MEETING REGAL VOYAGE WINS THE GUP A TRACK RECORD Favoured with fine weather, the opening day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s Summer Meeting attracted an excellent attendance. The track was in splendid order and fast times were recorded in the races decided prior to going to press. The totalisator returns for the early races on the programme showed increases on the investments on the same races last year, results:— YATJXHALL HANDICAP, 130sovs; second 20, third 10. The bracketed pair, Fairyland and Gay Paree, was made first choice. Great Patch, Lee Boy, and Remembrance lost their chances at the start. Honora Bingen and Fairyland began the smartest of the limit horses, and at the end of two furlongs were showing well clear from Nelson’s Lady, with Royal Stan and Sea Mist next. Nicoya, who was second favourite, met with interference at the end of a furlong, and lost a lot of ground. In the second lap Honora Bingen and Fairyland were racing together, and before the lap was completed Gay Paree, who was slow to gc away, had run into third place, the others having no chance. With thiee furlongs to go, Gay Paree was on the wheels of the leaders, and went up to them racing across the top, where Honora Bingen broke. The bracketed pair had a good set to racing down the straight, and Gay Paree won by a length and a-half. Honora Bingen was eight lengths'off third, and followed by Sea Mist, Nelson’s Lady, and Nicoya. Times: 3min 36 2-ssec, 3min 36 4-ssec. 3min 39sec.

Rare Pronto led through the straight from Molly Desborough, Erin s Star, and Ruin. There was no change in the second lap, and entering the last lap Rare Pronto was just clear of Molly Desborough, Ruin, Erin’s Star, Wrecker, and Warbird, who were racing in close order. Rare Pronto drew out two lengths clear from Ruin and Wrecker as they raced round the far turn, where Erin’s Star and Automatic were close up next. Rare Pronto led into the straight from Ruin, Wrecker, Erin’s Star, and Automatic, and in the run home won by nearly three lengths from Wrecker, who beat Ruin by two lengths for second money. Erin’s Star, Warbird, and Colorado were next. Times—3min 22 4-ssec, 3min 23 2-ssec, 3min 24 l-ssec.

Morrison was quickly out in front, and led Dusolina, Peter Daunt, and Sunny Morn over the first round and into the straight, then Dusolina dropped out. Morrison maintained his advantage and stayed on to win by over a length from Peter Daunt, who beat Sunn., Morn by a neck. Gold Tinge finished fast into fourth place, and Roddy and Tactless were next. Times: 2min 12 3-ssec, 2min 12 4-ssec, 2min 13sec. DUNEDIN CUP HANDICAP, 400sovs; second 70, third 30. For horses that can do 4.28 or better. 2m. 1— Mr R. Warplane, Regal Voyage, King Pointer. Entering the last lap Arethusa was still showing the way to King Pointer, who had been racing on the outer, with Warplane, on the fence, Regal Voyage, Carmel, and Free Advice in close attendance. Regal Voyage was pulling hard entering the back stretch. Arethusa was still in charge from King Pointer, Warplane, and the favourite when they turned for home. Halfway down the straight Warplane headed Arethusa, but Regal Voyage came with a good run to win by a neck from Warplane, with Arethusa a nock away. Carmel was a length further back fourth. Times: 4min 24sec, 4min 25 l-ssec, 4min 25 2-ssec. Regal Voyage’s time was a track record.
