TOWN CLUB AT MIDDLEMARCH i What resembled a wedding flotilla leaving Dunedin at 9.30 ‘ yesterday morning was the Logan Park Club en route for Middlemarch. The party arrived at Harvey’s Flat, boiled the billy, and told some yarns. Their next port of call was the unemployment camp, where the manager of the tour (Mr W. Casey) left eight cases of fruit for the boys. Mr Lloyd acknowledged the) gift, and spoke highly of the foresight of the bowlers in making such a generous donation. Only a few of the men were about the camp at the time of the party’s arrival, and they cheered them to the echo on departing, and, to show their thanks to the bowlers, the men cheered each cai on its return journey. The party arrived at Middlemarch at 1.45 p.m. During the afternoon tea adjournment Mr Dawson apologised for the president-, who was indisposed. He welcomed the town people to their green. They were the first. He recognised the fact that it was a big undertaking for a town club to send four rinks of men and three of ladies, and complimented the Logan Park Club on its undertaking.

Mr Casey thanked the Middlemarch Club for its invitation, and trusted that it would be the forerunner of many more visits Amidst great applause and cheering, Mr Casey informed them that it was his intention to offer a challenge cup between these two clubs. They only hoped that when the Middlemarch Club paid its return visit the weather would be as good. He mentioned also that perhaps they could make a gala day of it—croquet, bowls, tennis, and swings for the children. The Middlemarch Club, accepted the challenge; and desires to play within a fortnight’s time. Thanks are due to Messrs Casey and Saunders for arranging the game. It resulted : —Men’s Section.—
