NOTES ON THE PLAY

Hardley and Breraner (Auckland) were expected to beat Shaw and Cherry (Canterbury), although a troublesome wind was an added measure of uncertainty to the game. With nine heads gone Hardley led by 1, but after the sixteenth he had an advantage of 4. The Canterbury pair were 3 behind on the nineteenth head, but on next Auckland increased their lead to 6. Shaw drove with his last bowl, and, although he hit the head, the jack sprang to where two of Bremner’s bowls were lying.
