BRASS BANDS CONTEST
TD-MONNOWS DEMONSTRATIONS
The brass , bands provide _ th# “people’s music,” and the ambitious programme for the Otago district brass band contest to-morrow will made _ a wide appeal. Particularly good entries have been received for all classes, and in view of the close approach of the dominion contest the effort is of moment. . . To-morrow morning His Majesty s Theatre will he used for two competrtions, and thirty solo performers have entered. The grand_ military display and quickstep competitions strations will take_ place at Carisbrook, all bands mustering at the Queen s Gardens at 1.30 o’clock and marching to Carisbrook. eleven bands will provide the display. On previous occasions the quickstep has attracted many thousands to Carisbrook, and the appearances of the St. Kilda and Kaikorai Bands will give added interest. ~ ' In the evening the contests will be resumed at His Majesty’s Theatre, when the finals of the morning sections will be heard. Four bands have entered for the hymn test (own selection), and four C grade bands for the own choice selection. Mr W. H. Osborne is the judge for the musical work, while Major Meade and his staff will judge the inarching.
