CARLTON’S RETIREMENT

Mr J. C. Allison, honorary secretary of the New South Wales Olympic Council, commenting on Carlton’s decision to enter the priesthood, said his loss to Australian sport was immeasurable. It was the action of a great, cleanliving man who, in the world of sport, was prepared on the eve of his greatest triumph to renounce all things worldly. Ho had decided on the greatest step any man could take, and apparently ho was well content.
