CARGILL ROAD METHODISTS

There was a good attendance at the first quarterly meeting of the year, held at St. Clair Church. The chairman, llev. H. L. Blaraires, extended, a hearty welcome to the new representatives on tho hoard, who wore present for the first time. Tho past twelve months were marked by great success spiritually, insomuch that there had been a great ingathering of young people. This was due to the very keen way in which llev. Mr Blamires has followed up the work commenced by the late Rev. J. A. Lochorc. It is quite a pleasing thing to note the number of young people elected to office of the church. The incoming of a new minister (Rev. W. H. W. Greenslade) to St. Clair has made a wonderful difference to that church. At the end of the year Dr and Mrs C. S. James, who are in New Zealand for a holiday and a rest, were welcomed home after three years’ medical missionary work in the Solomon Islands. In spite of difficult times it is remarkable how tho church finances have been sustained. The Sunday school anniversary came off early in December, and mm h appreciation and thanks were duo Mr W. W. Ashby, superintendent, for the way in which he trained the children and the entire success of the children’s festival. Mr A. E. Harman reported that £7O 10s had been raised for foreign missions, and the amount collected by Mr A. T. MTndoe for home missions was £3l. After many years of service Mr J. B. Shacklock resigned the joint positions of circuit steward and treasurer. In the middle of the year Rev. H. L. Blamires came to Cargill Road Church to take up a very difficult position, but ho has been quite equal to the task, and before tho next quarterly meeting he will be away, much to the regret of all.
