The parent concerned in'a household school in Otago wrote expressing his appreciation of the splendid progress made bv his children. He stated that

his experience with the correspondence school had not been a success, as the mother was temperamentally unfitted for the necessary supervision. The Chairman said this bore out the opinion he expressed some time ago that the closing of Grade 0 schools and the establishing of correspondence schools would cause hardship to many far-back people, especially in times like the present, when country folk were dispensing with much of the assistance they might have had. In reply to a remark by a member, Mr Wallace said he did not consider the establishment of correspondence schools a retrograde step, but ho wanted to protest against the closing of Grade 0 schools to make way for correspondence schools; , The Hon. D. T. Fleming remarked that the success of a correspondence school depended upon the aptitude of the mother. The letter was received, EASTER HOLIDAYS. In view of Anniversary Day falling on Wednesday, March 23, and Good Friday on the 25th, the board decided that Anniversary Day be observed on Thursday, 24th, and that the schools be closed from 24th to Tuesday, March 29, inclusive.
