POWER BOARD
♦ MONTHLY MEETING CONCLUDED
The Otago Electric Power Board’s monthly meeting was concluded yesterday afternoon, with Mr J. K. Simpson in the chair. Tho engineer’s report (published yesterday) was adopted. TRANSPORT REPORT.
Mr W. Taino reported as follows on transport matters:—On the whole transport is giving satisfaction. 1 End that the servicing is quite justified, and now have made arrangements with Mr Warren, of Palmerston, to service the northern area, motor trucks at 15s per 1,000 miles for greasing, oiling, and spraying (wo supply our own oil) and general observation. The old method by which this was done is absolutely out of date. Power pressure has now superseded hand pressure. No. 1 car (tho engineer’s) met with a slight mishap at Berwick, when No. 7 truck was passing it on a wet and muddy road and slid into it. The rear lamp was damaged. The No. 7 Chevrolet truck met also with an accident at Berwick, when it was raining hard, and the road was in a slippery state. It capsized over a bank, but was soon righted again. I am unable to give any more details, as the driver neglected to send in any particulars. The report was adopted. GENERAL. Tho Hawke’s Bay Power Board wrote asking for support in its endeavours to secure a uniform price for bulk supply from the Public Works Department.— Mr A. Russell said that the only way the suggested arrangement could be arrived at was for the Government to take over all power supply,—Mr W. B. Gallaway said that tho board should always try to help another board if possible.—lt was decided to support the Hawke’s Bay Board’s action.
Tho Town Clerk, Balclutha, wrote offering £ls per year to have street lighting there continued from midnight till dawn.—lt was pointed out that £ls was quite inadequate, and it was decider to leave the matter in the hands ef Mr Russell to discuss tho question witu tho council.
