APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —With a view to relieving some of the distress at present existing in the city, due in part to the_ closing of tho relief depots, tbo Hospital Board has taken control, until some other measures are adopted to cope'with the ■difficulty,! of the depot just opened at the old Commercial Travellers’ Club in Dowling street. _ As the need is pressing, I take this opportunity, in the absence of His Worship the Mayor, of appealing to all members of the community for support. Donations of foodstuffs, clothing, etc., will bo gratefully received; all cases will be investigated; and I feel sure that Dunedin’s reputation for liberality will be maintained now that the public are made aware' of tho necessity and of the opportunity.—l am, etc., F. W. Mitchell (Deputy-Mayor). January 12.
