ST. CLAIR BEACH.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As a visitor from Wellington may I make a suggestion that would, I think, improve your beach at St. Clair —that is, the removal of the rows of piles or the sawing of them off level with the sand? I think they are unsightly, and spoil the look of one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen in Now Zealand. Why they were ever put there goodness knows. I did hear that they were supposed to stop the shifting of the sand, but were an absolute failure. Seeing that those sticks are doing no good, why not remove what is undoubtedly an eyesore on an otherwise beautiful beach ? I only wish we had a beach as good as you have at Wellington, with such clean sand. I will take the privilege of suggesting that you should make a safe wading pool for the children near the baths, by forming a low boulder wall' about three feet high in a line with the foreshore from the corner of the baths nearest to the shore and the Esplanade wall. The boulders lying at this end could be collected and cemented together to form the wall.—l am, etc., A Visitor. January 11.
