ASBESTOS MOTOR SHED

Before attempting to paint asbestos sheets one should see that they have two coats of a silicate of soda solution’in tho proportion of one part of tho silicate (waterglass) to four parts of water. Warm water greatly assists in tho dissolving of the silicate of soda. Following this preparation work oil paints, water paints, ordinary distem-per,-or coloured whitewash may be employed to assist in tho toning-down process. As with the distempers, the oilpainted surface may bo rendered flat by adding turpentine. There is a wide range of distemper water paints which may be selected from an oilman’s colour chart. Many prefer to apply a varnish made by dissolving shellac in hot water, adding borax the while, until it is a thin, washable varnish. This will render tho distemper paint more weatherproof. Ordinary distemper may bo made waterproof by the addition of a chrome alum solution. Dissolve lor, of chrome allum in 10or of water. One ounce of the solution is sufficient for lib of glue, which, roughly_ estimating, is enough for a pail of water paint—--1 English Mechanics.’
