COUNTERFEIT NOTES
[Per United Press Association;] AUCKLAND, January 9. A man entered a shop in Karanga* hape road this morning and for a purchase tendered a Bank of New South! Wales £1 note. The girl attendant recognised the note as a counterfeit*! The man fled, and the girl immediately informed a constable, who with other] policemen searched for the man and found him thirty minutes later. They took him to his lodgings, where it is understood they discovered 500 counterfeit £1 notes, similar to those which .circulated iaJtujcklwkl lastyear*
