FIGURES FOR LAST YEAR VARIED OCCUPATIONS OF BANKRUPTS Of a wide range are the occupations of those avlio filed in bankruptcy in Dunedin during 1931, as disclosed by the annual returns of the Official Assignee. . , , , The occupations of the bankrupts were: Labourers (4), farmers (3), salesmen (3), butchers (2), carriers (2), carting contractors (2), fishmen (2), restaurant keepers (2), sawmillers (2), avool and skin merchants (2), blacksmith, bricklayer, builder, bus proprietor, carpenter, company manager, dairyman, electrical engineer, fishmonger, hotelkeeper, land agent, lorry driver, manufacturer, miner, motorbodv builder, painter, pastrycook, petrol station proprietor, plasterer, plumber, and puntman. In three of tho bankruptcies the liabilities Avero from £SO to £100; in tAvelvc they Avere from £IOO to £250; in eleven they were from £250 to £500; in ten they were from £SOO to £1,000; in six they Avere from £I,OOO to £2,000; and in tAvo they Were from £2,000 to £5,000. FolloAving are details of tho bankruptcies last year, those of the previous year being given in parentheses:— Assets. —£12,852 10s 4d (£7,123 12s 8d). Amount secured to creditors, £25,641 3s 2d (£20,100 7s Id). Liabilities, £30,957 12s 9d (£19,637 realised by Assignee, £4,166 11s 3d (£3,642 0s 3d). Amounts of debts proved, £21,640 I6s lid (£21,543 7s lldj. Paid in dividends (excluding-prefer-ential claims), £3,454 0s 8d (£1,4/0 4s Paid in preferential claims, £386 8s 7d (£305 7s 8d).
