BIG CORPORATION “I am able to give news of a gigantic enterprise on the part of the Uaumont Graphic Corporation, by which £1,000,000 a year will be invested in the making of British talking pictures ” (writes W. A. Mutch, in the ‘ Daily Mail ’). This enterprise, which will be the greatest single film effort yet made in this country, is not the result of quota regulations, but is due entirely to the increasing popularity of British talking pictures with British filmgoers. The Gaumont British Corporation has found that the 3,000,000 filmgoers who attend its 350 cinemas every week I demand a constant stream of British talking pictures.

The credit for realising this fact and for having the courage to act upon it belongs to Mr Charles M. Woolf, who is entitled to be regarded as the guardian of British film production. Mr Woolf will be to the enterprise as the keystone to a bridge of which one end will be Mr Mark Ostrer, representing the Gaumont British cinemas, and the other Mr Michael Balcon, who will fill the most important post occupied by any production supervisor in Great Britain.

Seven studios will be at the disposal of this enterprise, two recently completed by Gainsborough at Islington, N., and five now being completed by Gaumont at Shepherd’s Bush, W.
