HUMAN BAROMETERS
RHEUMATISM AS A WEATHER PROPHET.
Why rheumatic people become human barometers and can foretell wet weather was explained by Dr Gerald M. Slot in a lecture at the Institute of Hygiene, London, recently. The skin functioned better in a dry atmosphere, he said. In the humid atmosphere that preceded rain the skin could not give off poisons in the body, and a rheumatic person immediately noticed the effect. In cases of rheumatoid arthritis very good results had been obtained by injecting milk or dead typhoid germs. Patients had violent fever for about two hours and then were very much better.
“I have yet to find,” lie added, “that smoking or drinking in moderation lias a bad effort on people suffering from rheumatism.”-
