(Received January 8, at 1 p.m.) A more hopeful view of the European situation and the chances of useful international co-operation at the forthcoming conferences were shown on the Stock Exchange to-day. Most departments were busy. Gilt-edged securities continued very firm. German bonds were again strong, and several other foreign Government issues were marked up. Home industrials and banks were notably firm. DAIRY PRODUCE. Messrs Dalgety and Company Limited advise having received the following cablegram from their head office, London, dated 7th inst:—Messrs Samuel Page and Son report as follows: The butter and cheese markets are firm owing to light supplies. Quotations — Danish butter, 130 sto 1345; New Zealand finest butter, 100 s to 102 s; Australian finest unsalted butter, 110 s to 112 s; Australian finest 'salted butter, 101 s to 102 s; Australian cheese, white, 55s to 675; Australian cheese, coloured, not quoted; New Zealand cheese, white, 56s to 68s; New Zealand cheese, coloured, 55s to 675; Canadian cheese, white, 64s to 725; Canadian cheese, coloured, 64s to 695; Canadian cheese, c.i.f., not quoted.
