YOUNG MAN’S DEATH. Russell Albert Howes, aged nineteen years, who resided with his parents at 432 George street, died suddenly while having a bath at his homo last night, and an inquest was opened at the house this afternoon, Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., sitting as coroner. Sergeant Boulton appeared for the police. _ Evidence of identification was given by the father of the deceased, William George Howes, who said that his son went to the bathroom to have a bath about 8.45 last night, and about 8.55 witness, who was in the kitchen, heard a cry from the bathroom and rushed upstairs. There was a sort of a crash, and witness found the bathroom in darkness. The deceased was lying in the bath, which was about half-full of water. He was gurgling _or gasping, and appeared to have fainted. Witness’s wife rang up Dr Pulton, and witness drained the water out of the bath. With the assistance of his wife, witness took deceased out of the bath and laid him on the bed where he was when Dr Fulton arrived within lOmin. Artificial respiration was tried till about 11 p.m., but without avail. Deceased had apparently been shaving while in the bath, and was using a portable light. He had apparently picked it up with his wet hand, and it was defective. The inquest was adjourned until Monday next at 9 a.m.
