ARMED ROBBERS

Two men armed with revolvers rushed Into the office of a colliery at Westphalia, and one held up the cashier while the other rifled the safe of £6O and dashed out. _ The cashier and the .workmen immediately chased them. .One of the robbers ordered the driver of a trampar to assist him to_ escape and threatened to shoot a detective who .was standing on the platform, but another detective who had hitherto not been noticed among the excited passengers ordered the thieves to surrender, and before the robbers could pull out their revolvers the detective shot one of them dead. The other escaped in the confusion that followed. . The money was found on the corpse and was returned to the cashier.
