There was a strange and hopeful happening at Ypres the other day. Early in the morning COO Gormans got out of the train and marched to the cathedral. There they took part in a service of remembrance. It was All Souls Day, when the church gives thanks for the memory of those loved and lost in peace or in war. Afterwards the leader of these former enemies made a speech, in which he said that they hoped the sacrifice of all will not have been in vain. This pilgrimage of the GOO, he said, was to show that they desire peace. In Barcelona in Spam, still survives the professional letter-writer, who for a consideration will express anybody’s sentiments about anything. Spam’s new Republican Government has announced that it is determined to educate everybody, to which the scribes reply that it everybody learns to write their occupation and their bread will be gone.
