The statue of Christ on the Corcovado Mountain, near Rio de Janeiro, has been completed. It is 98ft high, and stands 2,000 ft above sea level. Recently it was flood-lit by Marchese Marconi by means of a wireless signal from Italy, 5,500 miles distant. The illumination made the figure of the statue appear to float in space, with arms outstretched in an attitude of benediction.
Mr Hilaire Belloc has been appealing to people to save the old windmills which make such picturesque landmarks. Ho admits that they are expensive things: his own at Shipley in Sussex cost him £2OO for repairs which followed a storm, but he said that he paid the bill as readily as he would pay, for the restoration .of a picture*
