INCREASE IN NOTE ISSUE ASSETS AND LIABILITIES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SIDNEY, December 31. (Received December 31, at 11.25 a.m.) The Commonwealth Bank_ return shows that the note issue has increased by £1,000,000 in the past week to £54,803,000 at December 28. The total increase in three three weeks is £3,000,000, or £500,000 more than a year ago, indicating freer expenditure at the Christmas season. The assets total £55,299,000, including gold (£10.500,000) and debentures and other secui’ities (£44,234,000). The ratio of gold to notes is 19.16 per cent. In the banking department the deposits total £48,482,000, money in London £13,795,000, Government securities £28,794,000, and short loans and discounts £12,185,000. The ratio of cash to deposits is 12.58. The savings bank deposits throughout the Commonwealth at September 30 totalled £193,581,000, maintaining the increase which began in July, and as the increase continues, the prospects for the new year are regarded with optimism.
