IMPERIAL CONFERENCE
ABOUT THE END OF JULY PREPARATIONS PROCEEDING. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December 29. (Received December 30, at 9.25 a.m.) Apparently there is little prospect of fulfilment of Mr Thomas’s recently-ex-pressed hope that the Ottawa _ Conference would be held slightly earlier. Preparation is proceeding on the assumption that it will begin abojit the end of July. Tho conference will probably last many weeks. Tho only chance of completing it in a reasonable period is to make the preliminary work as comprehensive as possible. In this connection the Dominions Office Committee is working out details of the effect of possible Britsh preference on tho produce of tho dominions, including the question of the price to consumers. It is later hoped that preliminary discussions with tho dominions’ representatives in London will help to clarify the task, which is naturally heavy.
