INGENIOUS SCHEME FOR SMUGGLING STOWAWAYS

BERLIN, December 28
Two members of the crew of the Atlantic liner Bremen and a New York barkeeper were sentenced to imprisonment varying from six to ten months on charges that they belonged to an international organisation having agencies in Sydney and other great ports for the purpose of smuggling stowaways. The evidence showed that the barkeeper planned a hiding place for his conducted parties with the connivance of the other accused. It is believed that many" Chinese crossed to New York, paying 200dol each. Failure of the food supplies led to the discovery of the smuggling.
