INTERNATIONAL BROADSIDING
Saturday’s broadsiding meeting at the Speedway Hoyle has about it an international flavour, as the events will see in competition against one another representatives of England, Australia, and New Zealand. The two meetings that have already been he|d have established the sport firmly in public favour, and with the track improving at each meeting some fast times should be put up in the international match race, in which the starters will be Sid Jackson (famous English rider), Frank Elmes (Sydney), and Cliff Bysouth (Melbourne). Jackson has ridden for England in no fewer than five tests on the speedway, and he was formerly captain of the Coventry League broadsiding team. Attached to the Christchurch track, ho has created a very favourable impression in the north, and Bysouth and Elms will find him a very solid proposition indeed. There will bo real rivalry in this match, for an Australian has yet to win a match event on the local track against an Englishman. Bysouth and Elms both showed their true form last week, and the formeV in particular promises to be one of the most spectacular broadsiders that has yot been seen here. The second big attraction of the evening will bo the interprovincial match race between Cantermiry and Otago, in which the visitors will be “ Shorty ” Wicks and Jack Oakley, while Otago will be represented by Lionel Homer and “Ginger” Inglis. The latter has always been a ■great favourite with the public, and last week showed his best form to date. These men will all bo seen in the handicap events, in which the starters will also include Jack Young, _ Peter Lyders, Jim Nosbit, Allan Crighton, and others. There should be plenty of action and thrills throughout the night, which promises to provide the best sport seen this season to date. The usual popular prices will be charged.
